Branching out with our website designs

Today, Martin Smout, one of our Senior Designers visited Oakdale Primary School in Peterborough to see a local artist recreate one of e4education’s website designs as a 10ft wall Mural in the school hall.

Martin said “I had an immense sense of pride seeing the work throughout the school, from the signage at the front of the school building to the mural taking centre stage”.

The local artist, Keith Warrington who used to teach at Walton School in North Peterborough spoke of how he had previously lent his creative skills to graphic, web and even retro game design, designing “Skool Daze” on the ZX Spectrum (released in 1984).

Keith said, “It was Head teacher, Mrs Steward’s idea, she wanted a tree depicting on the wall. As soon as I saw the schools website, I could see that using the same design would not only work perfectly, but would offer consistency to the schools’ image in helping to hang it all together.”

Techniques employed to create the mural include using vinyl emulsion for the base colour, and black and white acrylic paint to create the tint colours. Once complete, a clear varnish will be used to protect the paintwork. He aims to complete the mural today having only just started the project yesterday morning!

e4education ‘School News’ app

The most important measure of a school website is how well it communicates. With parents and other people involved within a school, trying to juggle an increasingly hectic lifestyle and staying on top of what is going on at a school becomes an impossible task if they need to wait for a computer to load up, remember the website address and then find the correct place on the website to get that information.

With this daily struggle in mind, e4education have a ‘School News’ app solution that can deliver this information to parents quickly and easily direct to their smart phones. The only information you need to set it up is to know which school you’re interested in receiving news from. Using the latest technologies, the app finds all the schools within your area and you simply add the school to the app. From then on every time you open the app it will check your schools website and pull out all the latest news and events that are happening within the school.

and…. if you have children attending different schools, it is not a problem; the app can pull through news and events from as many schools as you need and will display them in the news timeline for you.

If you are attending BETT 2012 (11-14 January) at the Olympia London, please come along to our stand – F26 (on the ground floor of the Grand Hall not far from the pass through to the National Hall) where one of the e4education team will be happy to demonstrate how it works.
