Today, Martin Smout, one of our Senior Designers visited Oakdale Primary School in Peterborough to see a local artist recreate one of e4education’s website designs as a 10ft wall Mural in the school hall.
Martin said “I had an immense sense of pride seeing the work throughout the school, from the signage at the front of the school building to the mural taking centre stage”.
The local artist, Keith Warrington who used to teach at Walton School in North Peterborough spoke of how he had previously lent his creative skills to graphic, web and even retro game design, designing “Skool Daze” on the ZX Spectrum (released in 1984).
Keith said, “It was Head teacher, Mrs Steward’s idea, she wanted a tree depicting on the wall. As soon as I saw the schools website, I could see that using the same design would not only work perfectly, but would offer consistency to the schools’ image in helping to hang it all together.”
Techniques employed to create the mural include using vinyl emulsion for the base colour, and black and white acrylic paint to create the tint colours. Once complete, a clear varnish will be used to protect the paintwork. He aims to complete the mural today having only just started the project yesterday morning!
